Editorial Beach Portrait Photoshoot at Pensacola Beach, FL
EMILY
Two words: THE DRAMA. This portrait session at Pensacola Beach was everything and more. It’s creative, cinematic, and editorial. It’s everything Emily and I dreamt of. Less than a week ago Emily had reached out to us about doing a portrait photoshoot. She wanted something different but something that also felt timeless and chic. She also knew she wanted to do something at the beach.
We got to brainstorming and chatted about a few different ideas before I suggested this one and she was instantly head over heels in love with it! As a lover of Pinterest, we collaborating on a moodboard. We wanted an all white suit, a chair to use as a prop, some gold jewelry, and sunglasses. I also brought along our super8 film camera which was a perfect addition. With our location, outfit, and props figured out, we started to discus what we wanted the photos to look and feel like. We discussed certain poses ahead of time and chatted more about what she wanted to say through these photos.
Emily and I really had a heart to heart before the photoshoot and talked about life. As mentioned earlier, Emily grew up in the area. A few years ago she moved away and decided to spontaneously make a trip back here for a week for a much needed breather. She told me how the beach has always been a safe space for her and it’s always where she’s felt most like herself. We wanted these photos to be fun and editorial but we also wanted them to have underlying elements of vulnerability. These photos are confident and were a way for Emily to rediscover herself.
I showed up early to scout out the location and find where the light was hitting. We first stopped at a grass field where we pulled out the super8. This was right during the peak of golden hour so lots of the photos are sunny and have some shadow play. As the sun was starting the go down, we headed over to the ocean for some photos. We stopped taking photos for a second and had an intimate moment. This was the first time in over two years that Emily was stepping foot in the ocean. Some tears were shed and a weight was lifted. It’s funny how sometimes all you need is a little bit of the ocean to heal you.
